With a record turn out of over 800 athletes it was a great start to Triathlon Australia's new Challenge Series.

With qualifying spots for the Australian team for the 2009 World Championships up for graps in both the Olympic Distance and Sprint Distance races competition was hot.

The Queenslanders brought over 220 athletes over seeking spots for a home World Championships. But Yarra Tri held their own with excellent peformances in both races.

In the Olympic Distance race junior athlete Kirsten Norden took out 2nd place in only her second Olympic Distance race. Joining her on the podium was Andrew Cahill 3rd in 40-44, his first National Series podium finish. While Shaun Broadbent, Chris Becker, Bill Apostolou, Jacinta Vines and Jeremy Barber all picked up valuable qualifying points for the Australian team places.

The Sprint race saw victory for club president and coach Michael Pratt, an awesome 5th place in his National Series debut for Chris Lock, 6th for Steve Squire an a 11th for Shayne Quinton.
