World Champs - Day 3

It was time to brave the shark infested waters in preparation for race conditions in the Broadwater so the gang headed to the cage: an  area that apparently is shark proof. Hmm, we're a trusting bunch as we head into the water looking remarkably like tasty seals in our wetsuits. We were joined today by Miss Popularity who always adds value to a session. After much debate as to the length of our cage, a quick lap of stroke count established that we were working with 100m. Too easy. The shark net worked and we all made it home safely for breakfast number 2.

Again we set about relaxing and again the Veronicas sought inspiration in coffee. Times three. Today was the day to register your arrival with TA at the Aussie team headquarters located at the Southport Life Saving Club. This is a double story establishment - think local footy clubrooms. The entire upper deck rooms were covered with about 30 massage tables with therapists already in action massaging those eager athletes keen enough to have pre-booked their timeslot before leaving home. We were given unexpected confidence at the ease of registration to receive your "unique Aussie Team Kitbag".

Day 3 saw the first day of racing on the GC, with the Aquathon World Championship and Yarra had 2 athletes competing: Mama and the Holy Grail. After much internal bickering ITU decided against a wetsuit swim (which would have seen the first run cancelled!!) and the race was underway. Mama had a blistering first run entering the water in second position. Despite doing a fetlock she finished a fantastic 5th. The Holy Grail also had a great race finishing 6th.Some excellent results on the scoreboard.

The Aussie Team Dinner was scheduled for 6pm and as all quality triathletes do we were all congregating around the monster circus tent at about 5:45 clutching our stomachs in anticpation of a meal. You can imagine the collective growling and general angst that was going on by 6:30 when we were finally allowed to enter the tent. The highlight of the evening was the classic opening number "Holy Grail". At the conclusion of the song our very own Hunters member was personally mentioned and wished all the best for the race.  Oh and leaving with full bellies while hundreds of poor souls were still lining up for their meals!
