There’s something pretty special about open water swimming and this season has reminded us exactly why.
Over the past few months, we’ve been lucky to share some incredible sessions at Half Moon Bay, with calm mornings, clear water, and plenty of smiles all around. Whether it was athletes building confidence, refining skills, or just enjoying being out there together, these sessions have been a highlight of the Yarra Tri calendar.
Supported by City of Yarra
We’re incredibly grateful to the City of Yarra for their recent community grant, which has enabled us to strengthen the safety and quality of our open water program.
Through this support, we’ve been able to purchase vital water safety equipment, including a rescue board and club swim caps, resources that directly enhance both safety and visibility in the water.
This investment not only supports our experienced members feel supported in the water, but helps us continue building a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for members of all abilities including those who are new to (or nervous about) open water swimming.
A Special Thank You
A huge thank you to our coach, Michael Pratt, for guiding us in the open water with skill, calm, and experience, creating an environment where athletes feel supported and confident in deeper conditions.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Sonja, whose dedication to water safety continues to have a meaningful impact on our club. From leading safety practices on the ground to successfully securing the City of Yarra grant, Sonja’s work has helped make our sessions safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone. Contributions like this are what strengthen our community and allow the club to keep growing in the right direction.

Thanks also to our YarraTri members who are so supportive of one another! Open water can be challenging , but with the right support, it becomes one of the most rewarding parts of triathlon training. Thank you to everyone involved in helping athletes of all levels feel safe to learn, improve, and belong.
We’re proud of the community we’re building and excited to keep growing this space in seasons to come.
